Measures to start addressing affordable rental housing

The National Rental Affordability Scheme and community housing ownership of the properties they manage will only go some of the way towards starting to address affordability for renters. This would complement their National Rental Affordability Scheme and other initiatives already announced, and provide much needed relief to those on waiting lists. The National Rental Affordability Scheme isn’t a bad start, putting back the 30,000 lost public and community housing properties from the last 10 years must now become a priority.

Human Services Minister Lin Thorp said statewide advertisements today invite businesses and organisations to submit their case to become the Preferred Tasmanian Tenancy Manager(s) for the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS).“The Tasmanian Government has committed to support the scheme by providing $2,000 per annum for 10 years, indexed by the rental component of the national Consumer Price Index.”
